A grant for $7 million from the US Dept of Energy was furnished to NV Energy and Pulte Homes for the model new Las Vegas homes. Acceleration of green building is happening by the partnership between private and public markets work together. Assistance from corporate partners and government agencies help reduce the cost of green building.
Some of the green homes include tank-less hot water heaters, eco friendly building design, solar-photovoltaic systems and a home automation system.
Don’t like the days of panels extruding out from the top of the home? These new homes showcase an integrated solar electric powered SunPower SunTile roof that is the latest and greatest in solar technology and meshes with the roof. Homes range in size from 1,487 to 1,960 square feet.
Residents will be able to check on generated solar power, from the touch screen monitor that is wall mounted. Usage is tracked, too.
Summer in the city is very hot and to reduce the strains placed on the electrical grid, including brownouts and blackouts, during the high usage months the model community reduces energy demand.
