Summerlin Centre Hosted Kick Off Of Youth Soccer Fest

Soccer in Summerlin Las VegasSummerlin Centre hosted the third annual American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) Soccer Fest yesterday at the community park, located at 1800 S. Town Center Drive. The annual event kicks off the fall soccer season in the master-planned community of Summerlin, Nevada and will include children’s music, activities, food and visits from the mascot, Summerlin Sam.

In addition, soccer players from Las Vegas Strikers and UNLV Running Rebels, Southern Nevada’s only professionally amateur men’s league, talked with fans.

According to Regina Jackowiak, regional commissioner for the AYSO, Summerlin’s Region 1258 youth league is the valley’s largest, with more than 1,300 players between the ages of four and 18 currently enrolled in this year’s fall season. “Our continued growth year after year is possible because of the dedicated volunteers,” Jackowiak said. “These parents want their children to have fun and so do we. It’s a win-win situation for all involved.”

In addition to the AYSO leagues, adult soccer leagues are also coordinated annually by The Summerlin Council, the nonprofit arm of the Summerlin Community Association dedicated to the social, educational and recreational enrichment of residents. “Soccer is one of the community’s most popular sports,” Brock Wilson, recreation supervisor for The Summerlin Council, said.

There are six full-size lighted soccer fields with neighboring junior practice fields located throughout Summerlin Las Vegas at The Crossing Park, The Paseos Park, Spotted Leaf Park and Summerlin Centre Community Park.

According to Julie Cleaver, director of planning for The Howard Hughes Corp., the number of soccer fields continues to grow in the Summerlin community given soccer’s popularity. “The soccer fields serve a variety of recreational and social purposes for Summerlin residents of all ages and skill levels,” she said.

In addition to programming soccer leagues, The Summerlin Council also coordinates a variety of other athletic leagues and competitions for Summerlin residents, including softball, basketball and volleyball.
