Summerlin Las Vegas Requires Energy Star Homes For Sale

Summerlin Las VegasSummerlin Las Vegas, in 2003 the master-planned community of Summerlin Las Vegas became the country’s largest community to require its Las Vegas home builders to provide Energy Star qualified Las Vegas homes for sale. Under this program, more than 30,000 Summerlin homes for sale will be built to Energy Star specifications, according to the vice president of community and government relations for The Howard Hughes Corp., developer of Summerlin Las Vegas real estate. Summerlin Centre Las Vegas is located within the Summerlin master plan and showcases 30 model homes for sale in Las Vegas.

“The Energy Star program was implemented for many reasons,” Warden said. “In addition to saving each Summerlin Las Vegas home buyer hundreds of dollars on annual utility expenses, the program reduces pollution and preserves environmental resources without affecting personal comfort. It’s a great program and we’re proud of our track record and commitment as a pioneering Summerlin real estate for Energy Star.”

According to Warden, the company’s dedication to preserving the environment has been demonstrated in many ways over the years — from its role in helping establish and protect the buffer zone and gateway into Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area through a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land exchange in 1988 — to a 2002 exchange that increased the size of the conservation area by more than 1,000 acres of real estate.

Summerlin Las Vegas in 2003 became Southern Nevada’s first community to implement water conservation guidelines on a community-wide basis. The guidelines were created in conjunction with Southern Nevada Water Authority. In the early 1990s, long before desert landscaping was popular, Summerlin stressed a desert plant palette that was used throughout the community.

“Energy Star was the next step in Summerlin’s evolution as an environmentally friendly community,” Warden said.

According to Sam Rashkin, national director of the EPA’s Energy Star Program for New Homes, Summerlin Las Vegas, Nevada commitment was truly unprecedented and brought outstanding environmental and economic benefits.

Summerlin residents living in Energy Star homes save almost $10 million dollars in energy costs and help keep over 140 million pounds of greenhouse gases out of our air each year,” he said.
Now in its sixth year, Nevada Energy Star consists of more than 40 partners including 25 Las Vegas home builders and developers, including Summerlin Las Vegas.
