UFC 64 Ultimate Fighting Championship Anderson Silva is nicknamed “Spider” because of his love Spider-Man the comic book superhero.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight Rich Franklin fights tonight in UFC 64 UNSTOPPABLE at Mandalay Bay to retain his title.

Some think Franklin is one of the UFC’s one of the best mma fighters available.

Ultimate Fighting Championship signed Silva, a Brazilian, this spring whom seems to be the only middleweight in the world to match up favorably.

UFC Silva, 31, was given a bout on June 28 against veteran Chris Leben to prove his abilities. Silva threw down Leben in 49 seconds with a throw and a jab.

Silva went into the fight against Leben hoping to make Dana White notice him. 

“I noticed,” White said with a laugh. “Believe me, I noticed.”

Franklin knew of Silva long before he signed with the UFC Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Like Franklin, Silva is a lethal striker with one-punch knockout power. He prides himself on a more technical approach to the game.

“I am what I say is a ‘thinking man’s’ fighter,” said Silva, who is 16-4 and has victories over UFC veterans such as Horn, Jorge Rivera, Leben, Lee Murray, Carlos Newton and Tony Fryklund.

Silva has the kind of thump in his fists that can turn fights around.

But he’s also a Brazilian jiujitsu black belt, though hardly dominant, grappler.

Although he may not be well known to fighting fans who follow only the UFC, Silva also has a reputation of mixed martial arts followers.

“I definitely think I’m ready for this. I’ve wanted to fight in the UFC for a long, long time, and I want to show that I’m deserving of this.”
