World Vegan Month Celebration At Hussong's Cantina & Slice of Vegas

Slice of Vegas and Hussong’s Cantina at The Shoppes at Mandalay Place will celebrate World Vegan Month during November by introducing a selection of vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free additions. Both venues will offer a healthier dining approach as each menu has been developed with a new perspective on Italian and Mexican cuisine, emphasizing health while keeping true to the fare’s signature flavors.

Already a key component of the menu at Slice of Vegas, vegan and vegetarian items were successfully introduced shortly after the restaurant’s opening in April 2012 and have now expanded into a separate menu. Both restaurants will offer the option of replacing all meats with Gardein (garden + protein), a line of plant-based foods slow cooked to have the authentic taste and texture of premium lean meat. As a vegan alternative, dairy products will be omitted or substituted with Daiya vegan cheese.

At Hussong’s Cantina, start your meal with the Roasted Cauliflower Ceviche, a mixture of roasted cauliflower marinated in lime and jalapeٌo and served in a Baja mix of cucumber, red onion, tomato and cilantro or Tostada Salad, a crispy rice flour gluten free tortilla, with a healthy mix of lettuce, black beans, grilled corn, queso fresco, tossed in a roasted jalapeٌo vinaigrette and topped with julienne vegetables and Gardein chicken strips.

Vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free versions of classic Mexican entrees can also be found on the menu including Quesadillas, a rice flour gluten free tortilla with cheese and a choice of Gardein chicken or beef crumbles, pico de gallo, grilled corn and sour cream or Baja Style Veggie Tacos, a rice flour gluten free tortilla, guacamole, breaded zucchini, sour cream, tomatillo/avocado salsa and cabbage mix served with Mexican red rice and beans.

The Enchiladas feature corn tortillas rolled with the choice of Gardein chicken strips or beef crumbles and topped with creamy tomatillo salsa, sour cream, queso fresco, a citrus watercress salad and served with rice and beans while the Fajitas boast a mix of sautéed vegetables served on a sizzling skillet and topped with Gardein chicken strips that are served with rice flour gluten free tortillas, pico de gallo, sour cream, shredded cheese, rice and beans.

Kick off your meatless meal at Slice of Vegas with a selection of salads including Romelia’s Salad, made of chopped romaine lettuce with oranges, red onion, cucumber, carrots and avocado tossed in citrus Italian vinaigrette, topped with toasted pine nuts and finished with homemade croutons or the Tuscan Salad, a blend of fresh spring mix with diced tomatoes, fresh mozzarella cheese, red onion, basil, parsley, toasted chunks of herb infused bread and finished with an aged balsamic vinaigrette.

Move on to appetizers and enjoy the Meatless Meatballs, tender meatballs topped with fresh marinara sauce and melted mozzarella cheese.

Centering the dining experience is a selection of Italian staples including Spaghetti or Penne Pasta, consisting of rice spaghetti noodles or rice penne pasta smothered in your choice of meatless sauces or the Veggie Panini, made of grilled vegetables and basil pesto spread on Ciabatta bread and served with the choice of regular, garlic, sweet potato fries or a side salad. Pizzas include the Veggie Faux Pie made of house crust and pizza sauce with Daiya vegan cheese and hearty mix of vegetables, and the BBQ Chicken Pizza, featuring savory sweet BBQ sauce and mozzarella cheese topped with Gardein chicken and red onions then finished with chopped cilantro.

The Meatless Meatball Pizza is made of fresh tomato pizza sauce and layered with mozzarella cheese and sliced Gardein meatball while the Vegan Chocolate Cake with creamy vegan peanut butter frosting provides a sweet ending.
